Welcome to

Southwest Florida

Bordered by the calm, turquoise waters of the Gulf, Southwest Florida spans a diverse landscape of barrier islands, mangrove forests, and pristine shorelines. Offering warm ocean temperatures year-round and a wide variety of vibrant downtowns, Southwest Florida is arguably home to some of the best beaches in the state.

Stretching from Port Charlotte down to Marco Island, this part of the Sunshine State offers miles of sun-drenched beaches and lush tropical preserves. With the intercoastal waterway stretching along much of the shoreline - framed by a series of narrow barrier islands - watersports and outdoor recreation are top on the list throughout the region. Additionally, people visit Southwest Florida for its exceptional shelling on Sanibel Island, world-class golf courses in Naples, year-round outdoor activities, and welcoming nature-centric vibe.

The regional culture across Southwest Florida blends relaxed beachside living with upscale sophistication. Seafood dominates local menus, with restaurants regularly serving fresh Gulf pink shrimp, stone crab claws, and black grouper. Vibrant art galleries, boutique shopping districts, and outdoor music festivals bring the warm, coastal evenings to life. Enjoy music and art walks along the cobblestone streets of downtown Fort Myers, or an awe-inspiring sunset from the pier at Venice Beach.

Before it was a vacationer's paradise, the Calusa Native Americans lived in Southwest Florida, building complex shell mound cities along the coast. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, prominent figures like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford established their winter estates in Fort Myers. You can still tour these historic botanical gardens and laboratories today to see where early American innovation took shape.

December to February is generally the busiest season, offering pleasant temperatures and an escape from colder temperatures to the North - highlighting the area as a popular snowbird and retiree mecca.
