Overview
Sink into the hot tub beneath cypress trees as the sun melts into the Pacific, a few blocks inland from Portuguese Beach. This J. Carson Bowler-designed home frames coastal meadow and open ocean through walls of glass, with two king en-suite bedrooms sleeping 4. Bodega Bay's harbor and seafood shacks sit under five miles south; Jenner and the Russian River, seven miles north.
Spend mornings watching fog burn off the coastal meadow from the balcony, afternoons walking the few blocks to Portuguese Beach for golden sand, rocky headlands, and surf fishing, and evenings around the fire table on the sheltered deck with fresh crab from Spud Point. Bodega Bay's working harbor sits less than five miles south; Jenner and the mouth of the Russian River, seven miles north. Settle into the open top floor where walls of glass pull the meadow and ocean into the room, and the gas fireplace anchors board-game nights when the marine layer rolls in. Designed by noted Sea Ranch architect (and Bodega Bay resident) J. Carson Bowler, the home was renovated with energy efficiency and modern tech in mind while holding to the Sea Ranch ethos of good design and harmony with the land. Cook at the light-filled kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an induction cooktop (compatible pots supplied), then gather at the dining table where the views do half the entertaining. Slide downstairs to the den for a smart TV, a leather sofa, and a classic Malm Fire Drum gas fireplace -- plus a dedicated home office with an Apple monitor and USB-C jack if a workday slips in. Pull out the portable Bose Bluetooth speaker and let music follow you room to room. OUTDOOR LIVING Sink into the private hot tub sheltered by cypress with sweeping ocean views, then move to the upper deck for dinner behind the wind screens or the lower patio's rocking chairs at the meadow's edge. Fire up the gas grill for coastal cookouts, gather around the fire table as stars come out, and rinse off in the outdoor shower after a beach day. Beach chairs and towels are stocked and ready. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS Two king suites, each with its own en-suite bath: - Bedroom 1: King bed, en-suite bath - Bedroom 2: King bed, en-suite bath Total capacity: 4 guests. PROPERTY AMENITIES - Private hot tub with ocean views - Two gas fireplaces (main level and den) - Gas grill and fire table on the deck - Induction kitchen with stainless steel appliances - Washer/dryer, outdoor shower, and beach gear provided - EV charger on-site (240V, 48-amp Clipper Creek J Plug, ~46 mi/hr)
Sink into the private hot tub and let the Pacific open out beyond the deck — when the fog rolls in, the gas fireplace warms the great room behind you. The whole two-story home is yours, with a gourmet kitchen and an ocean-view balcony off the main floor. Grab the key from the lockbox out front, and pull up to two cars in the driveway.
Portuguese Beach awaits just a 5-minute walk away (0.3 mi), where locals know to search for shells and watch for whales from the bluffs. This golden stretch of sand tucked between rocky headlands is one of Bodega Bay's most beloved beaches. Morning coffee tastes better with sand between your toes. The working harbor of Bodega Bay lies 3-4 miles south, where Spud Point Crab Company (3.6 mi) serves its legendary Dungeness crab sandwiches and award-winning clam chowder — expect a line, but it's worth it. Nature surrounds you here. Salmon Creek State Beach (1.7 mi) draws surfers to its consistent breaks, while the Kortum Trailhead (1.8 mi) leads to dramatic bluff-top hiking. Rock Point Beach (1.1 mi) and Schoolhouse Beach (0.3 mi) offer more intimate coves to explore.
Bodega Bay is about 90 minutes from San Francisco — a beautiful drive up 101 and out Highway 1 through farmland and coastal ranches. You'll have two dedicated parking spaces: one in the garage (sedan-height vehicles only) and ample room in the driveway for any vehicle. A car makes exploring the Sonoma Coast effortless — it unfolds for miles in either direction. Cell service is light along the coast, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is a good idea.
The home's modern tech includes a hardwired EV charger in the garage (240-volt, 48-amp Clipper Creek) that adds 46 miles of range per hour — perfect for Tesla road trips. No air conditioning needed — ocean breezes keep the home naturally comfortable, though heat pumps provide climate control when desired. The second fireplace in the den is now fully operational for cozy evenings. Beach chairs and towels await in the closet, and an outdoor shower helps rinse off sand. The home office features an Apple monitor with USB-C connection for remote work with a view. Solar panels charge a battery backup system, so essential functions continue even during rare power outages. The kitchen's induction cooktop comes with compatible pots — it heats faster and more efficiently than gas. The primary renter must be 21 or older. Quiet hours from 10 PM to 8 AM help preserve the peaceful coastal atmosphere.
