Overview

Eva's Cottage - Romancing the River

Rustic luxury with attention to detail. Eva's Cottage is comfortable and cozy, with many thoughtful touches like the down comforter and pillows on the queen-size, custom-built log bed (truly one of a kind!), and travertine/river rock shower. Relax by the massive stone, wood-burning fireplace, or in the hot tub just outside the greatroom. With wireless internet, internet TV and landline, you'll be as connected as you want, or need to be. This one-bedroom, one-bath, cottage is perfect for a couple or a solo visitor. Alternate lifestyle- and dog-friendly. he greatroomis dominated by a gas stone fireplace, with antique casement windows overlook the wraparound porch. The nook is a quiet, serene spot for reading or sleeping, and the kitchen is completely furnished to accommodate serious cooks, as well as those seeking a vacation from cooking. In the well-stocked kitchen you'll find a programmable drip coffee maker, coffee filters, coffee grinder, a French Press, a Keurig, microwave, toaster oven, electric water kettle, placemats, cloth napkins, tea towels and a British hotel teapot with a copper cozy. All this is in addition to a full set of cookware, flatware, glasses, gas grill dinnerware for four, and full-size appliances. Amenities at Eva's Cottage also include toiletries, firewood, and dog towels/cleanup kit (your pooch is welcome). If you need entertainment beyond watching the deer grazing nearby, you'll find internet TV (there is no other TV reception; the trees are so large they block line of sight to satellites) in greatroom, a TV/DVD/stereo in the bedroom, lots of games and books. Read about the fascinating woman who created this little slice of heaven which bears her name! Eva's Cottage sits just a few steps from our sandy beach, down a sloping path. It is an idyllic location with many eagles, heron, hawks, and deer, a large 20' deep swimming hole and year-round waterfall. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold. [Note: beach is shared by residents of nearby home, but they are quiet and respectful of our guests. Please note also that beach fires and fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just 1/2 mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).] This 28.5 acre retreat includes a large and rare stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment. You'll have access to four trails along the property, so be sure to bring your hiking boots! A good supermarket, drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. The Washougal is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. It offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south. All manner of outdoor activities are close by, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life. * Please note that there is no cell service at this home. ** There are outdoor security cameras on this property, however there are NO security cameras inside the home or on the hot tub. The outdoor security system is maintained for unwanted guests and the owners only view the driveways to make sure the unit does not go above occupancy.

Everything like the 8 previous times that we have been here

Very quiet and cozy. My wife and kids really enjoyed walking the trail near the house and spending time down at the river. It was relaxing and peaceful. We will 110% be booking this cottage again in the future.

My daughter and I stayed here while we participated in the Bridge of the Gods Half Marathon up the road. It was a little further away from town then I had anticipated, but that played in our favor as we had complete quiet and peace away from all of the ruckus of the events in town. The home was in great condition and that bed was more comfortable than my own. I haven't slept that good in a long time. I'm already looking way when I can come back with my significant other and make it a romantic getaway.

Sweet little spot perfect a couple and maybe one little one. Small house but great location. The neighbors of the hood do use the beach as their swimming hole/ so there are usually locals coming by for a dip. The kitchen has minimal bakeware and spices. Bring your own.

Last weekend I had a lovely stay at this cabin in the woods. I ended up enjoying it solo, though I could imagine making it happen with a few friends next time or just one. It may not be huge, however, it is charming. The fireplace was great and the hottub served my needs.
