This house was not worth the money
Review 4117 Night Heron, Kiawah Island We rented the property at 4117 Night Heron from Vacasa for Sunday July 6 to 13. The house is structurally ok. It is about a 10min walk to the beach and the beach is very nice. The contents of the house are not nice. There is a burn mark in the shape of a clothes-pressing iron on the rug in front of the couch. The drape on the right side of the sliding glass door is not hung correctly. The digital readout on the microwave is broken. There is a missing metal piece on the right side of the oven door. The air conditioning vent is very dirty. There is one non-stick pan that is bashed in on one side. The house supposedly accommodates six people. It had three water tumblers, two wine glasses, and an odd assortment of juice-like glasses. The paper towels and toilet paper supplied were thin and cheap. Each bathroom had one very small bar of soap, which was supposed to last up to four people for a week. You don’t feel like you are providing your family a quality Kiawah Island vacation. You feel like you checked them into a cheap motel. I sent several messages to the email address they provided in case of issues. I got back AI generated messages repeating the words I had sent in my messages and saying it would bring it to the attention of the property manager. On the Monday morning after we checked in, two guys appeared, unannounced, to replace the washer/dryer. Fortunately, I had not gone to the beach that morning. While they were there, they stole a personal item worth about $150. I discovered the theft an hour or so later. In order to have information about who sent them and who they worked for before I called the police, I called the property manager whose name and number were on the check-in instructions we had received on Saturday. I got a voice-mail saying he would return my call. He didn’t. I sent another email to the robot address I had been given. I soon got a reply that among other things said “I have forwarded your concerns to our local team so they can look into this matter further. Someone from the team will be in touch with you directly to assist.” Nobody called. On Tuesday morning I again tried to contact the property manager. Again it went to voice-mail and I heard nothing from him. After a few hours I called the local Kiawah Vacasa office and asked for the property manager by name. The name was not familiar to the receptionist. Really! On Saturday he is listed as the local property manager, on Tuesday his name is unknown at the office. I explained to the receptionist that we had a theft and that I needed information. She said she would have the real property manager, or his assistant to call me. Several hours later I had heard nothing, so I went directly to the Vacasa office in Kiawah. The property manager was not present, but by then the assistant had called the sheriff’s department. I gave the information to the deputies... (there is more look for it on Yelp)
The dryer went out mid-week; we called Vacasa 4 separate times to report and follow-up; they never called to provide an update; finally they said they would compensate us for not having a washer/dryer for half the week but we never heard from them again regarding a refund. Beyond that, the dishwasher only worked sometimes, one of two TVs worked, the sliding glass door to the screened-in-porch was not usable, and then there were the ants -- need an exterminator. Nothing that can't be addressed, but Vacasa was not responsive. Otherwise, we had a great time in Kiawah; hard not to.
The place was clean and comfortable.
